“Strengthening Governance in Kawthoolei” is an updated edition of the School of Governance and Public Administration's brief overview, Governance and Administration of the Karen National Union, originally published in 2023. This second edition draws on numerous conversations and interviews with officials and members of the Karen National Union between May and November 2025.

"The KNU has made notable progress in strengthening its governance and public administration in a relatively short period of time. In addition, its attempts to become more inclusive, including greater involvement of women and other ethnic minorities, can also be seen in its recent initiatives. However, these efforts are still in progress and practical results will take time to become apparent. The KNU is moving in an important direction and the coming years will show how these foundations take shape on the ground."
