“This is Not Democracy” examines the historical context of the current elections, illustrating how the military regime’s so-called “Roadmap to Democracy”, including the 2008 Constitution, is nothing more than an attempt to cement military rule under a civilian façade.

“We were cheated, we are being cheated, we will be cheated again and again,” says the monk Ashin Sopaka of the International Burmese Monks Organization. The film also includes interviews with Naw Htoo Paw of the Karen Women’s Organization and U Win Hlaing, National League for Democracy MP-elect from the 1990 elections and former political prisoner, as well as both historical and recent footage from inside Burma.
